Come Sail Away with Me

I am a member of the UGA sailing club and toady we had a “learn to sail” day at lake Lanier to help recruit new members. In addition to this event the sailing club uses many outlets of social media to help share our passion with the UGA community. Today, UGA sailing live streamed learn to sail day on both Facebook and Instagram. This allows viewers to see an hourly update of what we are doing at lake Lanier and keeps our event at the top of the feed. UGA sailing also posts pictures from lake days on Instagram for potential members and friends to see.

You tube is also used to promote the sailing club by posting weekly “chalk talks”. These are informational videos made specifically for the sailing team, but are able to be viewed by the by anyone who wants to learn about sailing. With the help of the club’s passionate executive members and strategic social media techniques, the UGA sailing club has grown tremendously and is expected to grow even more in years to come.

Mmmm that’s Tasty

If you are in a hurry but still want a delicious meal that looks gourmet, Tasty videos are the way to go. With over 8 million followers on Facebook and 7.8 million on Instagram, Tasty shares quick instructional videos on how to make comforting, snacks, meals, appetizers, drinks and dessert. Pretty much anything you are craving, Tasty will have a recipe for it.

It is pretty much impossible to scroll through my Facebook feed without seeing numerous tasty videos either shared by my friends or posted from Tasty. As most of the videos are one minute or less, it is easy to get mesmerized by the food and binge watch several at a time. Instead of lengthy written descriptions the videos show the viewer how to make the food. This allows the viewers to remember numerous videos for the next time they go to the grocery. The videos contain an array of recipes as well as categories that include “#TastyHappyHour, #TastyJunior, 4 ways to make anything, and a category with all the videos.

The main promotional Item of Tasty is their cookbook. Facebook, which has the most Tasty followers out of all the social media outlets, promotes their cookbook in their cover photo as seen below:

Instagram is a close second and has in its biography a link to purchase the tasty video. Additionally, Twitter frequently alternates posts between food videos and cookbook promotions. To keep things fresh, Tasty is currently promoting valentine’s special edition to the cookbook. The company also allows people to make a customized cookbook with their favorite recipes which makes for a perfect gift.

The standardized book offers seven categories of the buyer’s choice. Other potential categories that may be selected include: light meals, one pot wonders, pasta & bakes, 5 items or less and more. Each category has an emoji next to it to keep up with the modern social media vibes it presents.

Talking about these videos has made me hungry… I think its time I go make a snack from the latest Tasty Video!

The Royal Caribbean Intern-Ship

Want to travel the world while getting paid? The Royal Caribbean cruise line has found a way to do this. Posted on a live snap chat story, the cruise explains that they are selecting a social media expert to take photos of their trip to post on Instagram. This lucky person will get to go on a 3-week cruise, with food, drinks, accommodation, flights, expenses and a paid bonus all included. The applications for this “intern-ship” are strictly on Instagram. To apply, one must post his or her best travel photograph and tag @royalcarribbeanuk and post #extraordinary explorer in the caption.

The Royal Caribbean is brilliant in their marketing implementations. Not only do they take advantage of modern social media marketing techniques by hiring an employee for Instagram posts rather than relying on outdated travel brochures, but the quest in hiring an intern is also very innovative. Tagging Royal Caribbean on Instagram is an easy way to apply for a job and this process allows thousands of people to view post with the royal Caribbean in it. After looking through their feed of hundreds of tropical beach pictures, I think its time I go book a cruise.
